Privacy Policy

Cutout is built so that your photos stay on your device. This policy explains what happens to your images, what limited information third-party Google services may process, and the controls available to you.

1. Overview

Cutout is an Android photo-editing application that removes image backgrounds using on-device artificial intelligence. Background-removal processing happens on your device. Because Cutout includes advertising and optional Google sign-in, some information is processed by Google services described below. For that reason this policy does not claim that no data at all is collected.

2. Photos and editing data

  • Photos you select are processed on your device to create a cutout.
  • Cutout does not upload your photos, segmentation masks, background selections, or edited results to a server operated by the developer.
  • Editing actions such as Keep and Erase brush strokes, undo and redo history, background choices, and export settings are handled locally.
  • Exported images are saved to your device in Pictures/Cutout.

3. On-device machine learning

  • Cutout uses Google ML Kit for on-device subject segmentation.
  • ML Kit may download or update machine-learning models over the internet.
  • ML Kit may transmit utilization, diagnostic, or performance information to Google.
  • Your images and the resulting segmentation masks are not sent to Google through the ML Kit subject-segmentation API.

4. Recent uploads stored on your device

  • Cutout can retain up to 24 recent uploads in private local application storage so you can reopen recent work.
  • You can remove individual recent uploads inside the application.
  • Clearing the application's storage or uninstalling Cutout removes this local history and any locally stored profile preferences.
  • Exported images already saved in Pictures/Cutout are part of your shared photo collection and must be deleted separately. See Delete Data.

5. Optional Google sign-in

  • You can use the Cutout editor without creating an account. Signing in is optional.
  • If you choose Google sign-in, the application may receive your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and profile-picture URL.
  • These profile values are currently stored locally on your device to remember your session and are not sent to a developer-operated account server.
  • Signing out or clearing application storage removes the locally remembered profile information.

6. Advertising: Google Mobile Ads

Cutout uses Google Mobile Ads to display advertisements. Depending on your consent, device settings, and region, Google advertising services may process or share:

  • Approximate location inferred from your IP address
  • Application interactions, such as ad requests, impressions, and clicks
  • Diagnostics, crash, and performance information
  • Advertising ID, app-set ID, or other device identifiers
  • General device and network information

This processing may be used for advertising, measurement, analytics, security, and fraud prevention by Google in accordance with Google's own policies.

8. Network access

Internet access may be used for:

  • Downloading or updating the on-device AI model
  • Serving advertisements
  • Displaying consent messages
  • Optional Google sign-in

Cutout does not require an internet connection to keep your photos private.

9. Notifications

Notification access is requested only after you grant notification permission on your device. You can revoke it at any time in Android settings.

10. Data retention and deletion

  • Local recent uploads are limited to the 24 most recent items and are replaced as you continue editing.
  • You can delete recent uploads individually inside the application.
  • Clearing application storage in Android settings removes recent uploads, editing state, local settings, and remembered Google profile information.
  • Advertising information handled by Google is controlled through Google and Android privacy controls.

Step-by-step deletion instructions

Read the Delete Data guide for individual uploads, all local application data, and exported files.

11. Third-party services

Cutout relies on Google services including ML Kit, Google Mobile Ads, the User Messaging Platform, and Google Sign-In. These services have their own privacy policies and data practices, which apply to information they process.

This policy may be updated when the application, its services, or applicable requirements change. The effective date above indicates the most recent revision.
